Belt is slipping

We have a Proform 720 treadmill that we bought used about a year ago. The last time I used it (2-3 months ago) it worked fine, however, the belt is now slipping. When my heavier husband tries to use it, the belt stops completely. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Thanks!

Belt is slipping

This is caused by one of three problems. First and most likely, the walking belt is loose. To tighten the belt, start by locating the two bolts that adjust the rear roller (one on each side of the unit in the back). Run the unit at about 3 mph. Tighten the bolts a 1/4 turn at a time. Make sure that what you do to one side, you MUST do to the other side or the belt will get off center. After you tighten it 1/4 turn, check the belt to see if it is still slipping. If it is then tighten the belt 1/4 turn again. Continue until the belt does not slip, but do not tighten the bolts more than 2 full turns. If it takes more than 2 turns then something else is the problem. The second problem that it could be is the drive belt might be loose. To tighten the drive belt, start by removing the front cover. loosen the bolts around the motor then tighten the drive belt by tightening the motor adjuster bolt. Once the drive belt is tight, tighten the motor back down. The third problem that it could be is the walking belt could be worn and need to be replaced. Let me know if you have any questions.

Proform crosswalk caliber treadmill, Belt slips causing the walking belt to stop while walking. I tightened the motor mounts so as to tighten the belt but still slips causing the walking belt to stop. Mortor seems strong enough to pull. There was allot of greese/oil on the underside of the belt. The motor spins, belt will slip while walking on it every now and then. reminds me of a loose alternator belt on a vehicle. Should I tighen the belt more or is the belt worn out

First you may want to try to locate the source of the grease/oil film and eliminate that problem. You'll need to wipe the entire belt inside with Naptha or another quick dry solvent. This type of unit will not operate correctly with any kind of slipppery film on the underside. When adjusting the belt you should be able to lift the belt at the center of the deck about 1.5 inches to 2.0 inches and no more. Also make sure you clean the drive roller and the idler roller in the same way. Thank you, Dana

I have a proform crosswalk 525x and have replaced the walking belt and motor belt, I agree with all of the comments above however what happens if that doesn't fix it. I am mechanically inclined and took it all apart and removed the mylar sheeting underneath the walking belt and put in polished stainless steel. I was hoping to eliminate the resistance in the walking belt and the platform, this improved it but did not eliminate it. I would think that the roller surfaces would be coarse or sticky to promote the "gearing effect". However the rollers are smooth at some places and coarse on the others. It appears that the coarse spots are from wear/swelling and the smooth spots on the roller appear OEM. Any ideas where to go next... I am thinking about wrapping the rollers in something that will grab the belt and prevent slipping. However my predicament is that I don't want the belt to slip on the rollers but to slip on the mylar sheeting (now replaced by stainless sheeting)

The console may not display. Perhaps a loose or slipping running belt poses a safety hazard. Maybe the treadmill runs at an unpredictable speed. Those are just some of the things that can happen to bring your workout to a halt. While certain repairs will require the services of a professional who specializes in treadmill maintenance and repair, there are some basic repairs that you can do yourself. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions 1. 1 Clean and routinely maintain the running belt. The belt may be worn if the treadmill stops operating or trips the circuit breaker. Look for any tears in the belt. Test the belt by putting the treadmill at full incline. If it does not shut off, you may need to replace the belt. You can try lubricating it first, but the safest fix is simply to replace it. 2 Tighten the running belt if it is loose. A belt can slip if there is too much friction. Be careful not to tighten the belt too much, though. You should be able to lift the belt at least 3 inches. 3 Push the belt in the direction that it normally turns. Turn off the power before you start. If the belt is difficult to turn, there is high belt/deck friction. However, if the belt moves freely, that's not the problem. 4 Examine the roller sleeve to see if it is centered on the running belt. If not, this could cause the belt to move to one side. Often a common problem with treadmills, you can try making adjustments yourself, but eventually you may need to replace the sleeve or roller. 5 Stop the treadmill and immediately unplug the power cord from the outlet if you notice a burning smell. Overheating could be a sign that there is too much friction or a short in the wiring. Examine the belt and deck for any signs of wearing. If they check out alright, inspect the wiring. Replace any damaged parts as needed. 6 Check to make sure that the power switch is on if you suddenly lose power. If this isn't the cause of the power loss, unplug the treadmill from the wall outlet and individually test the fuses, breakers and switches. Test the wall outlet first, as a fuse may have blown or a circuit breaker tripped. 7 Allow the treadmill to run at a speed of 2.5 mph without anyone walking on it if you notice fluctuations in the speed. The speed should be constant. If not, there could be a problem with the motor. 8 Test the motor using a fully charged lantern battery. The motor should still operate at slow speed. 9 Replace the batteries in the panel if it dims. If the batteries aren't the problem, check to see that all the wiring is still intact. Sometimes a wire pulls loose. With this you can fix it.If you need further assistance, please reach me. sincerly. God bless you.E.CUADRAMANAGUA, NICARAGUA.

Proform 622 Exp treadmill belt slips

If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both rear roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches above the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened. Now if this does not solve this problem then check the drive belt and adjust accordingly, also reverse the process of the above mentioned

I have nordictrack A2105 and although we "oiled" the belt and replaced motor belt, it still slips. What are we doing wrong?

Remove the hood. Turn the treadmill on to speed of 4 or 5 and straddle the walk belt. While the treadmill is running (with good shoes on) step hard on the walkbelt while observing the motor belt and front roller belt pulley. Does just the belt or front roller stop? if so the belt is loose. If the belt does not stop check to see if the front roller stops and the front roller pulley keeps going. If so the front roller pulley is slipping on the roller. If the belt, pulley and front roller are all moving and the walkbelt is the only thing that stops when stepped on then the walk belt is loose. To repair a slipping front roller you have 2 options: 1) purchase a new roller assy or 2) loosen the motor belt and push it to off to the side of the front roller pulley (no needto remove). Realign the roller pulley to the motor pulley. You may have to tap it into alignment. On the inside section of the grooved part of the pulley drill an 1/8" hole thru the pulley and thru the roller housing. (If you drill to the outside portion of the pulley on the left hand side you will hit the roller bearing. Now take a larger drill bit like a 3/8" and lightly countersink the plastic pulley - try not to drill thru the pulley with the larger bit. Using a thin head sheetmetal screw, install the screw so the head is just below the ribbed surface of pulley. If you screw up your first attempt just rotate everything 90° and try again.

How can you tighten the walking belt on a Image 15.R treadmill. Im pretty sure that its the belt you walk on that is slipping and not the one under the hood but I could be wrong. Any advice?

If you can stop the belt. You need to be aware that the drive belt can also cause this problem so I suggest that you remove the motor shroud and when you are adjusting whether the front roller is moving and the running belt has stopped (adjust back rollers) or the roller has stopped and motor is rotating ( adjust Drive Belt)
